Now Playing ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Now Playing mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
Information We Collect
We collect very little information. The App does not require you to create an account, log in, or provide any personal information to use it.
- No account required. You can use the App without providing your name, email address, or any other personal information.
- Anonymous analytics. The App uses Amplitude to understand how people use the app (for example, which screens are visited most). Analytics are fully anonymous — we use randomly generated device identifiers, not your name, email, or Apple/Google account. No personal information is collected or linked to your activity. You cannot be identified individually from this data.
- Website analytics with your consent. Our website uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use our site. Analytics cookies are only set if you accept them — you can decline or change your preference at any time.
- Viewing preferences (optional). If you choose to use our "where to watch" feature for WNBA games, you can enter your ZIP code and select which streaming services you subscribe to. Your preferences are stored only on your device. When you use the feature, the App sends your selected services and the general region derived from your ZIP code (for example, your state) to our servers to calculate where a game is available — your actual ZIP code is never sent. This information is used only to compute your results at that moment; it is not stored or logged on our servers. You can clear your saved preferences anytime from the Edit screen within the App, or by uninstalling the App.
Anonymous Authentication
The App uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cognito to generate anonymous guest credentials. This allows the App to securely fetch schedule data from our servers without identifying you. These credentials do not contain any personal information and cannot be used to identify you individually.
Newsletter Subscription
If you voluntarily subscribe to our newsletter on our website (nowplaying.ws), we collect your email address for the sole purpose of sending you updates about Now Playing. You can unsubscribe at any time by following the link in any newsletter email. We do not sell, share, or rent your email address to third parties.
Third-Party Services
The App relies on the following third-party services to function:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — hosts our servers, database, and authentication infrastructure. AWS processes anonymous guest credentials, and — when you use the "where to watch" feature — the selected services and approximate region sent to calculate your results. None of this is linked to your identity.
- Amplitude — used in the App for anonymous usage analytics (screen views, feature usage). Amplitude receives a randomly generated device identifier and event data only. No personal information is sent. Amplitude's privacy policy applies to data processed by their service.
- Google Analytics — used on our website (nowplaying.ws) to understand traffic and usage patterns. Only activated with your consent. Google's privacy policy applies to data collected by their service.
- WNBA.com — when you tap a link from the "where to watch" feature to verify availability on the WNBA's official lookup tool, your ZIP code may be passed to wnba.com as part of the URL. The WNBA's privacy policy applies to data they receive.
- Apple App Store / Google Play Store — distributes the App. These platforms may collect their own data as described in their respective privacy policies.
Cookies
Our website uses a cookie consent banner. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics will set cookies to help us understand how visitors use the site. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set and your visit remains fully anonymous. You can change your preference at any time by clicking "Cookies" in the website footer.
The App does not use cookies.
Data Storage and Security
The schedule data served by the App is stored on encrypted AWS servers in the United States. Newsletter email addresses are stored securely and used only for sending updates. Your viewing preferences (ZIP code and selected streaming services) are stored only on your device. When you use the "where to watch" feature, your selected services and the general region derived from your ZIP code are sent to our servers solely to calculate your results — they are processed in the moment and are not stored or logged. Your actual ZIP code never leaves your device.
Children's Privacy
The App is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Since no personal information is collected, the App complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
